Diepgelegen Farm was bought in 1949 with no infrastructure. An architect friend of the owner designed the manager’s cottage and the homestead on the hill. All the bricks were made on the farm in a single brick hand press and were sunbaked. The farm has been in the family for over 70 years. For nearly 30 years it was a chicken multiplication unit for Festive Foods, producing fertile hatching eggs. The chicken business became too intensive, so the 16 hectares of avocado orchards replaced it. The farm lends itself to two beautiful cottages, The Old Dairy and Crabapple Cottage.
