Magoebaskloof Birders Cottages is the premier birders accommodation in the Magoebaskloof Valley(near Haenertsburg). Magoebaskloof is located between Polokwane and Tzaneen on the R71. Magoebaskloof Birders Cottages are located on Dragonwyck Farm, a small farm on the edge of the Limpopo Drakensberg escarpment. Dragonwyck Farm is ideally located to some of the best birding areas of Limpopo Province.
Historically the Magoebaskloof Valley was composed mainly of grassland with acacia and kiaat trees dotted about. There have always been patches of mist belt forest in ravines and along river lines. Today, most of these forest patches remain but the grasslands have been planted with avocado, macadamia and bluegums. Recently some farmers have started removing the gum plantations and replaced them with Avocado and Macadamia orchards.
Our climate falls between the heat of the lowveld and the cold of the Haenertsburg highveld. Each cottage is surrounded by indigenous plants providing the ideal habitat for many birds and animals. There are walks on the farm some which follow the streams and others provide access to escarpment forest. The cottages are a short drive away from the Woodbush Forest Reserve. There is excellent bushveld birding on the rain shadow route only 15km away.
