Diepgelegen Farm

Diepgelegen Farm was bought in 1949 with no infrastructure. An architect friend of the owner designed the manager’s cottage and the homestead on the hill. All the bricks were made on the farm in a single brick hand press and were sunbaked. The farm has been in the family for over 70 years. For nearly 30 years it was a chicken multiplication unit for Festive Foods, producing fertile hatching eggs. The chicken business became too intensive, so the 16 hectares of avocado orchards replaced it. The farm lends itself to two beautiful cottages, The Old Dairy and Crabapple Cottage.

The Old Dairy is a renovated quaint little cottage on Diepgelegen working farm in the beautiful Magoebaskloof area. This quaint little cottage was originally the milking shed for the farm dairy which supplied the local community with rich creamy jersey milk, fresh cream and homemade butter. Cows would be tethered to the food trough and hand milked twice a day. The bedroom was the separator room. The Old Dairy can accommodate three guests, in which there is a private bedroom, ensuite bathroom and open plan living area consisting of sitting, dinning, kitchen and a single bed. The cottage is fenced to accommodate those who would like to bring their furry friends along to the beautiful Magoebaskloof area.

Crabapple Cottage on Diepgelegen Farm is nestled in the picturesque Magoebaskloof mist belt. This quaint little piece of heaven has views ranging 180 of the Iron Crown Mountain range and surrounding countryside. Crabapple Cottage situated within the main house’s garden, is private, and can accommodate two guests, the cottage contains a smart tv, electric blanket for those cooler evenings and a swimming pool right on your doorstep.

Wildlife on the farm consists of jackals, bush buck, bush pigs, grey duikers, porcupines, civets, genet and lynx. Samango monkeys are indigenous to our rain forests, baboons are attracted to our orchards as well as vervet monkeys. The forests are home to many special trees: Cape Chestnuts, White Stinkwoods and Yellowwoods. There are rare birds here: Turacos (Knysna Louries), Narina Trogons, Buff-spotted Flufftail and the Cape Parrots.

Walks on the farm have been mapped and a list of restaurants in the area is provided.
